About The Hall

Some History

The Hall is registered as a charitable community for use by the villagers and residents in the surrounding areas. The hall is used for village events and is used by a number of groups and clubs for regular recreational and social activities

Like other village halls, Poulshot Village Hall has charitable status because it is held in trust to be used for purposes set out by the Recreational Charities Act 1958. (Charity Registration No 280765 – Poulshot Parish Hall).

In 1884 the Reverend Henry Arnold Oliver granted an area of land in Poulshot, known as Cooks Yard (192a), to the Rector of Poulshot, Charles Martin and to the churchwardens. The land was granted for the provision of a “National School”. A School was built on site and operated until 1974 as the local Church Of England school.

On the 9th February 1978 the Salisbury Diocesan Council of Education conveyed the School and its land to local residents, Mr Edgar Grist and Mr Frank Bull for £7500. Mr Grist and Mr Bull vested the property with the newly formed Charity, Poulshot Parish Hall.

The village hall’s purpose is set out in the Deed of Trust and the Charity Commissions objectives state this as

for the purpose of a village hall for the use of the inhabitants of the parish of Poulshot in the county of Wiltshire without distinction of political or religious or other opinions including use for meetings, lectures and classes and for other meetings, lectures and classes and for other forms of recreation and leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.
